Bug+Bear is a handmade small shop based in Ohio that offers clothing, tutus and bows. Having just opened in 2022, the shop has already grown to over 600 VIP members and an active following which proves the shop is worth checking out!
Owner, Alice, has a unique approach to running her small shop. While it is a job, her goal with her shop isn't to make large amounts of money. She explained, "I absolutely love what I do and I’m not doing it to turn a profit. I set my prices as low as I can so I can pay for supplies and make quality products while still fitting in a budget as much as possible!" Alice loves making clothing for her own children. She was already a small shop customer, so she opened Bug+Bear because she wanted to be a bigger part of the small shop community with which she was already connected.
Alice's two children are her main source of joy and inspiration. Like many shops, her children inspired the name. She began calling her son "Bug" before he was born, and her daughter has the nickname "Bear," so Bug+Bear became an adorable and unique brand for Alice to honor their existence and highlight their importance in her life. Her babes bring light to her darkest days and are the muse for all that she creates.
Bug+Bear holds weekly or biweekly made-to-order drops which allows customers to choose exactly what they want made. This is fitting since Alice's goal is to make her customers happy. She loves seeing babes of all ages smiling in the items she makes. Her hopes are to create pieces that will be loved by the kids wearing them as much as they are the adults who placed the order for them. Alice's most favorite items to make are tutus! "Nothing makes a girl feel and look more like a princess than a tutu!" And the small shop world has made tutus an everyday statement piece.

1. Are you more of a hunter or a gatherer? Gatherer, I could never be a hunter by nature.
2. You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What color would you be and why? A shade of pink, because it’s a naturally happy color
3. You find a lottery ticket that ends up winning $10 million. What would you do? Give it to charity! 4. What do you think about when you’re alone in your car? How to make more time in my day!
5. What’s your favorite ’90s jam? All of them? Ncync, BBs, Britany spears!
6. If you could be any animal in the world, what animal would you be and why? A dog, but hopefully a loved one! Because loved dogs have it made.
7. What was the last gift you gave someone? Handmade wedding present.
8. What were you like in high school? Same as I am now, I had my close friends, a lot of acquaintances, I studied hard and had good grades but also spent a lot of time having fun with my friends and boyfriend and doing stuff I probably shouldn’t have!
9. What’s the last thing you watched on TV and why did you choose to watch it? Angels and Demons - the documentary about Victoria Secret. Because I love docuseries and true crime!
10. Any advice for your previous boss? I hope someday you learn to control your anger and treat people with respect even if you don’t like them.
11. Tell me something about your last job, other than money, that would have inspired you to keep working there. I’ve been working as a nurse my whole adult life, I love it and enjoy every bit of it. I would have stayed in my last position forever but I furthered my career by becoming a lactation consultant so I still get to be a nurse but I added to it.
12. What is your dream job? Stay at home mom
13. What inspires you? My kids, and my husband is a driving force for me as well - he always encourages me to push myself.
14. What’s your food/drink guilty pleasure? Sweets! All the sweets! I would give up all things salty for sweets
15. What are you known for? Being Ryder’s mom? Being loud and confident, being trustworthy and knowledgeable in my job.
16. What do you work toward in your free time? Creating a more rock solid relationship with my kids and my husband. And increasing my own self confidence and becoming a stronger self.
17. How would you rate your memory? 2/10 my memory is terrible
18. If you woke up and had 2,000 unread emails and could only answer 300 of them, how would you choose which ones to answer? The ones related to Bug+Bear because the rest is probably junk! Lol
19. What pizza topping best represents you? Pineapple, because I’m real sweet but only some people like me but they like me a lot lol
20. Describe the color neon green to somebody who is blind. Bright and happy
21. If you were to get rid of one state in the U.S., which would it be and why? Oh man I dunno, probably one of the most republican states but there’s good people in all the states!
22. What is your favorite tv show to watch when you’re alone with the remote? Scandal or Grey’s anatomy
23. Are you now who you thought you would be ten years ago? Yes every bit of it. A mom a wife a nurse and a maker.
